One of the time-honored traditions of the Fourth Degree of the
Knights of Columbus is the Memorial
Chalice and Chalice Ceremony. It is a beautiful and lasting way to
pay tribute to a Sir Knight who has passed away. It will be a
comfort to the family members that a 24 karat gold-plated chalice,
featuring the Fourth Degree emblem and engraved with the name of
their deceased loved one, will be used in the Memorial Mass and
then, in accordance with the direction of the deceased Sir Knight,
will be presented to a priest, bishop or church for use in offering
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In addition, a special “In Memoriam”
certificate is presented to the family to memorialize the Sir Knight
who has passed away. The Chalice Ceremony is held at the Mortuary,
if there is a viewing - after the Rosary. If there is no public
viewing and only the Mass, the ceremony should follow the Mass.
Our assembly owns chalices, purchased through our Chalice Fund, that
are ready to be presented should the need arise. The Chalice Fund
was established by a generous bequest of a brother Sir Knight to
help perpetuate our tradition. The sacred vessels consist of a gold
chalice and a gold paten. A satin cloth with the emblem and gold
trim is used to display the chalice and paten during the Chalice
Ceremony
